Restrictions for trucks have been introduced on one of Dubai's key highways

It is a section on Emirates Road, where a ban on truck traffic from 17:00 to 20:00 has been introduced. The Department of Roads and Transportation Management says that this is a necessary measure - in the evening there are large traffic jams. The department says that the measure will free the road for passenger cars and reduce accidents.

 

 

Since April last year, the city authorities began to gradually implement a ban on truck traffic during peak hours. The ban has now been extended to Emirates Road in the direction of Sharjah city. Similar bans are in place in other major cities in the United Arab Emirates that experience rush-hour congestion.

 

Dubai Police General Saif Muhair Al Mazroui says the decision was made after studying all the standards that are needed to keep traffic flowing safely. The city's police will not fine violators for the first time, they intend to educate truck drivers. Law enforcement agencies have recorded 795 violations on other roads in the country where the truck ban is in effect since the beginning of the year.
